Fancy Little Cakes I Made for A Girl & A Boy

Last weekend I made these two birthday cakes for a brother & sister, Sammy & Karyn, who were sharing a birthday party.

The birthday cakes were each 3 layers of 6 inch round party sprinkle cake with whipped icing.

There was no plan for what they would look like when I started, and  I had a tight deadline, so I had to work fast wile trying to make them cute. No time for mistakes. Of course you know what that means.

Originally I was going to make the them square, but on my first attempt the cake cracked apart when I tipped it out of the pan. I had to start all over again. I ran to the store to get more materials. This time I would do round birthday cakes.

I had no plan for where to start decorating. All I knew was I wanted to decorate them so that they looked very much like a girl’s birthday cake and a boy’s birthday cake, so each would have to be decorated differently. I looked at what materials I had on hand & went from there. 😀

I started the cake decorating with icing & icing flowers around the top and bottom. Then I added color with some piping and sprinkle dots & stars, sour licorice, Reese’s Pieces and M&M’s. Even though It doesn’t look like much, it still took a while because I placed each sprinkle and candy one at a time. I was trying to be fast too, so the piping was hard. My hand kept shaking.

All kids like toys, so I used some as decoration on the birthday cakes. One for each of them. Since Karyn likes princesses I put Snow White on her cake, and for Sammy, a truck, since he likes cars.

As soon as Karyn blew out her candles, she licked Snow White’s feet clean then used her to dig out more icing for a second lick. 😀 The truck rolled across the table, icing and all. It was a lot of fun, and I think everyone liked the cake. There was just enough for everyone.

As far as the left over broken cake. That’s for me.
